Fall Trends in Custom Wedding Invitations

It’s hard to believe that summer is already coming to an end! Before long, though, there will be that familiar nip in the air, shorter daylight hours, and of course the beauty of changing leaves!

As the trees change from green to red, yellow, brown, and orange, we also see changes in the colors and designs that couples choose for their custom wedding invitations and wedding day stationery. Heading into the fall, we wanted to share with you some of our favorite trends this year and a few of our mockups to get you excited for the season!

Darker, Deeper, and Gorgeous

The pastels of spring and the bright hues of summer are in the past, and the next few months will be the realm of darker, deeper shades. It’s not just trees and wedding invitations that are changing–interior design is all about “jewel tones.” Think rich, luxurious shades of purple, deep red, and gold, and you’ll get the picture!

There’s one color, however, that appears to be the undisputed favorite this season, and that’s green. You can see fantastic examples of how an earthy green represents the beauty of autumn in the design ideas illustrated in this blogpost. Particularly when paired with white ink, a gold seal, or other jewel tone colors, forest and earthy greens are simply stunning and provide the perfect backdrop for your custom wedding invitations.

Perennial Beauty

While fall-specific colors are eye-catching and incredibly stylish, there are also a few colors that–just like love itself–never go out of style. When you meet with our wedding invitations designer, you’ll get the chance to review samples that use perennial favorite colors to beautifully announce your upcoming wedding.

This mockup shows how a light pink can be absolutely lovely for spring, summer, fall, or winter. Whatever the date on the invitation is, you can combine it with a watercolor map to the venue, customized monograms, ribbons, and other little extras to create an invitation or save the date that your family and friends will want to display in a prominent spot in their home!

Pink, rose, and a dusty blue are a few of the colors that our designers love working with all year round. We find that these shades instantly attract the attention of couples looking through our gallery of examples, and that’s always a sign that they will be a great choice.

Is it better to use a perennial favorite or a seasonal color for your wedding? As always, it’s up to you as the couple, but your wedding invitations designer will help you think through all the pros and cons. If your invitation goes out in the spring and your wedding is in the fall, for instance, you may be able to have the best of both worlds, choosing one color scheme for the invitation and a different one for the event itself.

Accessorize for a Special Touch

Another fall trend we’re excited about is the use of little “extras” to make your custom wedding invitations stand out. We offer lots of ideas of our own, and our clients often bring their own creativity to the design process to add a deeply personal element to their invitation suite.

In this example, you’ll notice our number one autumn color featured–several different shades of green. The watercolor design on the interior of the envelope and the wax seal suggesting an autumn leaf are examples of how we can make your invitation exceptional. There’s another simple yet effective touch here, however, that–quite literally–ties everything together! It’s the vellum ribbon around the invitation itself. There are plenty of variations on this accessory, of course, from a luxurious contrasting color to a simple string to an elaborate knot.
