If there is one thing that we have all learned together over the last few years, it’s that you never know what’s going to happen to change your plans! Whether because of a supply chain shortage, a global pandemic, or a hurricane, our best-laid plans are always vulnerable to events out of our control. As events that are typically planned months in advance, weddings are absolutely included in that!
An unfortunate yet important aspect of wedding invitation design is figuring out how to update your family and friends when the big event has to be moved to a new date. There are lots of options for doing so, and your designer here at Dodeline can help you do it with grace, creativity, and beauty. Here are our thoughts on how to make the best of this type of situation in the best way possible.
Streamlined and Simple
When the priority is to get your rescheduling message out as quickly as possible, there are a few options. The simplest (and least expensive!) is to simply contact all of your guests digitally to notify them of the date change as well as any additional information that they need to be aware of. A text or email isn’t the most traditional or elegant way to announce a new wedding date, but it gets the job done as long as you have a reliable phone number or email address for everyone.
Another option is to ask your original wedding invitation designer to produce an updated version of your initial invitation, with the new date and/or location specified. It’s relatively easy to print the updates in short order, since the design elements are already chosen and in place. The print and mailing process does take time, though, so it’s important that the new date be far enough ahead for people to get the updated invitation and plan to attend.
Creative and Exciting
If the circumstances delaying your wedding have necessitated a new date that’s far in the future, it does create an opportunity for you to take the time to design a whole new invitation with the help of your professional designer. The wedding will most likely be taking place in a different season than the original date, and you may even be taking advantage of the situation to make some changes to the aesthetics you had originally chosen for the big day. Getting to create two beautiful invitations for your once-in-a-lifetime event is a classic example of making lemonade out of the lemons life gives you!
We’ve also worked with couples who choose to inject a little bit of humor into their wedding rescheduling process, sending an announcement of a “plot twist” or a “take two” in their journey together! Particularly during the COVID pandemic, making the best of an unavoidable delay with the help of a laugh or two was a great way to acknowledge the situation while keeping a positive attitude.
Other Wedding Delay Topics
Of course, there are a multitude of other factors that must be worked out when there is a delay to your wedding. Some of those may involve your designer at Dodeline Design, if you’re also working with us to design your wedding day stationery. We’ll help you decide to what extent you want to overhaul your materials, from simply changing the date to giving them a whole new look and feel that matches the new season.
From lodging to venue availability to meal orders to musicians and beyond, there are plenty of other considerations, and most of them involve a fee, a deposit, and other types of costs. Wedding insurance is a wonderful idea that has saved many a couple from getting stuck with thousands of dollars in lost deposits and rescheduling fees due to unavoidable circumstances. We’ve seen a lot of weddings, and we recommend looking into an insurance policy that will set your mind at ease while you concentrate on what’s most important–getting ready for your big day!
Whether it’s a global pandemic, a poorly-timed hurricane, a tragedy in the family, or some other unpredictable factor, our expert designers are ready to help you overcome the obstacle and announce your new wedding date to your guests with all the flair and class of your original invitation!
