Charleston’s Dream Wedding Venues! Part One: Kiawah Island

There’s at least one very good reason we opened up our design studio in Mount Pleasant, Carolina: In this location we are surrounded by dozens of amazing wedding venues, from historic countryside estates to iconic downtown churches to beautiful beaches. It’s a dream come true for a wedding invitations designer!

With this blogpost we’re launching a series to introduce you to some of our favorite wedding spots in and around Charleston, South Carolina. It’s been our privilege to be involved in many ceremonies and receptions at these venues, and by getting a peek at the invitations, programs, place cards, and other types of stationery we’ve created for them, we are hoping you will be excited about working with us to design your dream wedding as well.

To be honest, we haven’t decided how many parts this blogpost series will consist of! There are so many great venues in the area that it’s hard to narrow them down to just three or four, so the series could go on for many months. In the end, we hope to give you a great overview of the best wedding spots in the Lowcountry.

Kiawah Island

Kiawah Island is about a half-hour drive south of Charleston, and is generally known as a more residential, less commercialized area of the South Carolina coast. There are a few golf resort communities on the island that offer beautiful venues specializing in weddings, which gives couples an opportunity for a ceremony in beautiful surroundings, far away from the activity of the city itself but close enough to allow guests to take in some of the sights while they’re in town.

Venue and Invitations

Reflecting the unique features of the wedding venue is something we love doing in our wedding invitation design. Our artists can do custom watercolor illustrations of things like the Lowcountry’s signature palmetto tree, seashells, landscapes, or even the venue itself. Here’s an example of our work in an invitation we created for a wedding at the Ocean Course, one of Kiawah Island’s sought-after wedding venues.

As you can see, we also included the illustration in the custom watercolor wedding map included in the invitation suite, giving guests a whimsical, fun way to locate where the venue is in relation to the Lowcountry’s more familiar landmarks.

A Weekend of Activities

If you’re visiting the beach for a wedding, why not make the most of it? One couple that we helped with wedding invitation design made sure that their guests had the opportunity to enjoy all that Kiawah Island has to offer, with an RSVP card including a welcome party on the beach and even a sailing trip the day before the wedding itself!

We love the way the color scheme for this particular invitation suite turned out as well, with muted gold, black, and white mixed and matched across the different elements by the wedding invitations designer.

The Sanctuary and the River Course

We’ve already mentioned the Ocean Course as one of the go-to venues on Kiawah Island. We also frequently help with stationery for ceremonies and receptions at the Sanctuary and the River Course. Both locations have exquisite grounds, facilities, and fun activities for guests to enjoy while they’re there. South Carolina’s coast has some of the best golf in the country, and the beaches are much less crowded than the public parks farther north.

Invitations and Wedding Day Stationery

If you are picturing your wedding ceremony as an outdoor event seasoned by the salty sea breeze and the sound of the waves on the shore, you couldn’t choose a better location than Kiawah Island. We would love to help you design an invitation suite that incorporates the feel and the sights of this great area, as well as wedding day stationery that keeps the day running smoothly and complements your colors, flowers, monograms, and other symbols of your marriage.
