We know that you have a lot of options for creating destination save the dates and wedding invitations. In today’s digital world, it’s possible for you to complete the entire process on your sofa in your pajamas, never even meeting your designer–or even using templates and designing your invitations yourself! Here at Dodeline Design, we make full use of the best that modern technology has to offer, and many of our clients work with us remotely without ever visiting our Mount Pleasant, SC studio.
For us, though, the difference we bring to the wedding invitation design process is combining that technology with tradition. We refuse to allow our clients’ stationery to look like it came from a cookie cutter or was designed using the free trial version of an online software! Instead, we retain all of the beauty, uniqueness, and fun of traditional custom designing and use technology to make it even better. Here’s how!
Artistry Is Alive and Well
Couples meeting us for the first time to chat about creating wedding invitations often have a question that they hesitate to ask us…do we really hand-paint those custom watercolor illustrations and maps? Yes, we do! In many cases you just can’t beat the results of an artist using markers, paints, pencils, and other media to create artwork on paper–just like it’s been done for thousands of years. After creating a design, showing it to the client, and refining it to perfection, the absolutely unique and beautiful result adds a personal touch to the invitation suite that simply can’t be achieved any other way.
On the other hand, we don’t exactly hand-paint every individual invitation. That’s where technology comes in. Once the artwork is finalized, we photograph or scan it into the computer, make whatever adjustments are necessary to retain the look of the original, and then print it onto the invitations themselves with high quality printing equipment. This combination of tradition and technology makes it possible for couples to enjoy custom artwork on a large volume of invitations without it being labor and cost prohibitive.
All-Digital Illustrations
Exploring the amazing world of digital art creation has been quite an adventure for us here at Dodeline Design, and it has resulted in some really beautiful wedding invitations! Using an iPad Pro and advanced software, we can create graphics that are still hand-drawn and unique, but are much easier to rotate, adjust, recolor, resize, and otherwise manipulate in ways that take much, much longer with paper and paint. This technology has become an essential in our design process, and it has great benefits for future clients, as we can show them past artwork we’ve created and make adjustments to perfectly fit their own invitations.
Seals and Accessories
Some of the elements that really make our invitations “pop” compared with the other invitation options available to you are the accessories that we can easily incorporate into your suite. Ribbons, bows, and other accents add texture and whimsy to your stationery, and there is one accessory that elevates the beauty of an invitation more than almost anything else: a wax seal.
This is another feature that we can add in several different ways, some more traditional and some more technological. In many cases, we can order a large volume of premade wax seals for an invitation project and apply them to each piece like stickers. Of course, we can also opt for the old-fashioned method of actually stamping hot wax onto the paper to create the seal. One of the most beautiful versions of this approach is a marbled seal, like the black and gold one featured in the invitation suite photo above.
Let Us Create Your Masterpiece
There are so many beautiful options that we can present to you as you consider what your final wedding invitation suite will look like. Rather than allowing technology to “dumb down” or take the artistry out of wedding stationery design, we believe that we have harnessed these wonderful new tools to expand our creativity and make it easier for couples to apply it to their invitations. We hope that you will set up an appointment with us, either in person in Mount Pleasant or remotely, to start designing your beautiful masterpiece.
