Four Great Reasons For a Fall Wedding

While many people list summer as their favorite season, there are certainly many qualities of the fall that we all love as well. In fact, once summer comes to an end, most of us would have to admit that we are very happy for the cooler temperatures, the beautiful foliage, and the other blessings of autumn.

It’s also a great time for a wedding! Here are four great reasons to plan your wedding for the fall, and if you agree, we hope you’ll get in touch with us at Dodeline Design to create some beautiful custom wedding invitations with which to announce it.

  1. Flowers and Leaves

Everyone wants a beautiful backdrop to their wedding. And while you could spend lots of money on ribbons, draperies, and hundreds of flowers to surround your ceremony, why not let nature do it for you? An outdoor wedding with the gold, yellow, red, and green of the changing leaves is a truly unique and gorgeous look. The season also gives you the opportunity to use flowers of different types and colors than the ones that bloom during summer. This arrangement from a recent wedding we helped with shows just how breathtaking a creative yet muted autumn flower display can be.

  1. A Cooler Environment

Let’s go ahead and admit the big drawback to summer weddings that guests never want to mention…it’s hot! We feel most sympathetic for the guys, who usually have to wear long sleeves and a handsome but not very breathable suit coat. By about halfway through an outdoor ceremony in the heart of the summer, the groomsmen can be sweltering and ready to find some air conditioning at any cost!

Compare that to the experience of an outdoor fall wedding–at the least, the intense heat and humidity of summer are in the past, and at best, nature provides you with a cool breeze and a delicious, invigorating nip in the air. Wedding reception with a bonfire, perhaps?

  1. Easier Scheduling

Wait a minute, you might think–with school back in session, isn’t fall a harder time for people to make it to a wedding? School is only one consideration, and many couples find that the other important factors outweigh it. After all, a weekend wedding with enough notice isn’t usually a problem for family and friends even during the school year.

It’s much harder for families, for instance, to work around a week-long or longer summer vacation that they’ve been planning for years. Summers tend to get filled up with trips, camps, and other special events, and it can be hard for families to make time for a wedding too. A fall wedding has a lot less to compete with!

Depending on the part of the country your wedding is in, you could also find it easier to book a venue during the fall rather than the popular summer season. Unfortunately, that’s not the case in the Charleston area! The summer is so hot and humid and the fall is so pleasant that September and October are prime wedding season here. You’ll want to select and book your venue as far in advance as possible to get the weekend you have in mind!

  1. Creative Sparks for Invitation Design

As we mentioned before, the flowers that bloom in the fall have an entirely different look and feel from those of spring and summer. At Dodeline Design, we love taking inspiration from those colors and patterns and incorporating them into custom wedding invitations.

In this invitation, we focused on orange and blue, two colors that you would rarely see in a spring or summer setting. But for autumn they convey a regal, luxurious feel that is certain to make for a ceremony that friends and family will remember forever.

It goes without saying that a wedding during any season of the year has the potential to be absolutely beautiful. But as we head into fall, we can’t wait for the gorgeous backdrops that the changing leaves create and the lovely wildflowers that add an unusual touch of natural beauty to a wedding.

If our photos and ideas are getting you excited about autumn, get in touch with us! We’d love to show you more samples, tell you about our wedding invitation and stationery offerings, and get started helping you design your very own invitation suite.
